Revelation 19
1. Who is shouting victoriously in verses 1-8?
2. Who is married at the wedding of the lamb?
3. Who are the guests at the supper?
4. When did/does/will the Rider of the white horse rule?
5. What is the great supper of God?
6. Who was/will-be thrown into the fiery lake?
Futurist-Prophecy yet to be fulfilled
1. The great multitude represents all believers: O.T. Saints, Church Age Saints, and Tribulation Saints rejoicing over the fall of the antichrist and his system.
2. The bridegroom will be Christ. The bride will be the church.
3. Many view the guests as saints of the past (O.T.) and future (Millennium). Others, however, see no distinction b/w the bride and the guests.
4. Jesus will come just after the 7-year tribulation to establish the millennial reign.
5. In a series of battles (including Armageddon), Jesus will defeat the armies of the world and then stand on the Mount of Olives (glorious appearing).
6. This is the fate of the antichrist and his false prophet (contrast with Enoch/Elijah)
Historicist-Prophecy fulfilled throughout the church age
1. The great multitude represents the church (and freshly converted Jews) after the final fall of the papacy rejoicing at God’s complete victory.
2. The bridegroom is Christ. The bride is the church.
3. This also represents the church
4. Most see this as Jesus reigning spiritually through His Word in the present day through the church, but others see it as Jesus reigning physically at the end of time
5. This is Christ destroying His enemies, probably at the end of time.
6. The description of the beast and prophet burning represents their being defeated once and for all.
Preterist-Prophecy fulfilled in distant past
1. All of heaven rejoices over the destruction of Jerusalem and the official beginning of the church age. The wedding is synonymous with the closing of the earthly temple and the opening of the heavenly one (11:19)
2. The bridegroom was/is Christ. The bride was/is the church. (Matthew 22:1-14)
3. This also represents the church.
4. Most preterists believe this applies to the continuing warfare of the church through the proclamation of God’s Word. These preterists dispute the idea that this represents the 2nd coming b/c He is said to come, here, on a horse (not the way He ascended) and the battle here is spiritual, not physical.
5. This is a great contrast with the marriage supper. Here, those being eaten/destroyed represent either Jerusalem in AD70 or Rome in the 5th century, But Jesus rides on throughout history.
6. This shows God victory over the persecutors of the church age
Spiritualist-Prophecy provides principles applicable many times
1. All of heaven rejoices that the marriage day has finally come. The O.T. announced the wedding, the incarnation was the betrothal period, the dowry was paid at Calvary, and the 2nd coming will be the wedding.
2. The bridegroom will be Christ. The bride will be the church.
3. This also represents the church.
4. Jesus will come at the end of the world to defeat Satan’s work once and for all
5. The great supper of God is God’s annihilation of evil at the end of time
6. These are not humans, but false ideas that will perish at the coming of Christ.
Life Lessons
1. It is better to have victory over the world than victory in the world (1-8)
2. The bride made herself ready AND was given clean clothes to wear (7-9)
3. It is easy for us to focus on the message & messenger instead of Christ (10)
4. Jesus is good, but He is not safe (11-18)
5. All other powers pale in comparison to the power of Christ (19-21)
