331BC Medo-Persian Empire overthrown by Alexander
169BC Antiochus Ephiphanes plunders temple at Jerusalem
Three more kings will appear in Persia, and then a fourth (2)
Cyrus Cyrus2? Cambyses? Darius1? Xerxes
A mighty king will appear…after…his empire will be broken up (4)

2. S Ptolemies
3. E Lysimachus
4. W Antipater
The King of the South will become strong (5) = Ptolemy 1st
One of his commanders will become stronger = Seleucus 1st
Ptolemy 1 vs Seleucus 1
After some years, they will become allies (6) = 252BC
The daughter = Berenice
Of the king of the South = Ptolemy 2nd
Will go to the king of the North = Antiochus 2nd
To make an alliance = Political Marriage
Ptolemy 2 vs Antiochus 2
But she will not retain her power = Ex-wife Laodice kills them
One from her family line (7) = Ptolemy 3rd
Will attack the forces of the king of the North = As Revenge
He will also seize their gods… = He takes their treasured stuff
And carry them off to Egypt = He returned home
King of the North will invade…but will retreat (9) = Seleucus 2 loses
His sons will prepare for war (10) = Seleucus 3 vs Antiochus 3

1. Attacks Egypt, but loses to Ptolemy 4 (10-11)
2. Attacks Egpyt again with allies, but lose again (13-14)
3. Attacks Egypt a 3rd time with success (15-16)
4. Offers his daughter to Ptolemy 5 as peace offering (17)
5. Invades Roman fleets, but loses and his son is taken hostage (19)
His successor (20) = Seleucus 4
A contemptible person (21) = Antiochus 4
Antiochus 4 (Epiphanes)
1. Grows up as prisoner in Rome
2. Negotiates his release in exchange for Northern Heir (21)
3. Destroys the Jewish High Priest
4. Replaces High Priest with Menelaus for a bribe
5. Defeats Ptolemy 6 in Egypt, but not completely (27)
6. Attempts to destroy South once and for all, but cannot (29)
7. Turns his anger toward the Jews b/c of a Jewish plot (30)
8. Desecrates the temple(31)
9. Resisted successfully by the Maccabean Revolt (32-35)
10. Died in 164 BC

2. Rome?- Because then the prophecy covers the whole period till AD70
3. Antichrist?- Because then the prophecy covers all of time
4. Herod?- Because Daniel has covered everyone except the Jews
