The End of Winter
In the Chronicles of Narnia 4 English children are sent t a professors country mansion during WWII. During a game of hide & seek the youngest child hides in the back of a wardrobe only to discover it is a doorway to another world. In this new world it is 'always winter and never Christmas'. As we read through the Old Testament, that is the kind of world we find from a fall forward...a world in need of Christmas Day!
It was....
1. A world where Adam & Eve, living in paradise, couldn't resist a single temptation. They chose rebellion over perfection.
2. A world where it only took a 2nd generation to produce the worlds 1st murder
3. A world where by the 6th chapter the world was so wicked that every inclination of the thoughts of mens heart was only evil all the time (Genesis 6:5)
4. A world where men disobeyed and made towers for their own glory
5. A world of slavery and sin
A world of deception and death
A world of sickness and suffering
6. A world where Job cries out ""He is not a man like me that I might answer him, that we might confront each other in court. If only there were someone to arbitrate between us, to lay his hand upon us both, someone to remove God's rod from me, so that his terror would frighten me no more. Then I would speak up without fear of him, but as it now stands with me, I cannot."
7. A world where prophets longed to see the day of their savior (1 Peter 1:10-12)
As time went on their salvation become clearer and clearer:
---They knew the savior would be from Abraham
---Judah's tribe, David's line
---They knew he'd be born in Bethlehem of a virgin
---Some even knew the approximate time (Luke 2:25-35)
And one day the world became flesh (John 1:14, Hebrews 1:1)
The time had come to end winter
Christmas day was finally here
Galatians 4:4
But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.
The first Christmas was Jesus ending winter
Jesus came to change the landscape of the world
Jesus came so you would go (with His presence)
1. Go and sin no more (John 8:11)
Matthew 1:21
She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."
2. Go on to maturity (Hebrews 6:1)
3. Go and make disciples (Matthew 28:19)
