Spiritual Test
1. Spiritual Tests come from God (22:1)
2. Spiritual Tests check our allegiance to our spiritual nature (Galatians 5:22)
3. Spiritual Tests reveal our level of faithfulness to God (22:12)
4. Spiritual Tests are stepping stones (22:13)
5. Spiritual Tests, if passed, can bring increased blessing (22:17)
1. Spiritual Temptations are from Satan (Mark 1:13)
2. Spiritual Temptations check our allegiance to our sin nature (James 1:14)
3. Spiritual Temptations reveal our faithfulness to Satan (Matthew 13:38)
4. Spiritual Temptations are stumbling blocks (Matthew 26:41)
5. Spiritual Temptations, if given into, can bring devastation (1 Tim 6:9)
1. God’s Word isn’t always easy for us to digest (22:1)
2. God’s Word doesn’t always seem to make sense (22:2)
3. God’s Word demands prompt obedience (22:3)
4. God’s Word calls for commitment (22:4)
5. God’s Word requires a personal response (22:5)
The Priority of Obedience (Genesis 22:6)
1. Obedience must take priority over comfort
2. Obedience must take priority over family
3. Obedience must take priority over wealth
Isaac as a ‘shadow’ of Christ
1. Both were conceived supernaturally
2. Both births had been promised well in advance
3. Both were only beloved sons of their father & mother
4. Both were to be sacrificed on a mountain
5. Both were considered as good as dead for 3 days
6. Both carried the wood needed for sacrifice
7. Both showed obedience to their father’s plan
By the Father’s mercy, Isaac was spared
By the Father’s grace, His own Son was not
