19:18 He Went to Samuel the Prophet
20:1 He went to Jonathon the Prince
21:1 He went to Ahimelech the Priest
21:10 He went to King of Gath of the Philistines
22:1 He went to a…..cave?
David had hit rock bottom
*There’s a 500 ft. hill in Adullam pierced with numerous caves. 2 Miles North was the spot David defeated Goliath, who would have thought he’d be hiding in a cave overlooking that site.
God’s plan starts to unfold in the strangest of venues (22:1-5)
1. He gets to see and protect his family
2. He gained an army (400 men)
3. He now had a prophet with him
4. He gains a priest at the end of the chapter
But mistakes from the past can come back to get us…
Saul’s Persuasive Speech (22:6-8)
1. Spear in hand (very persuasive)
2. Tribal loyalty (appeals to Benjamites)
3. They’ll be wealthier with Saul
4. They’ll be respected with Saul
5. He lies about the character of David
· Sounds like a political campaign
Doeg Makes sense of 21:7
David went to Ahimilech and was provided for
1. With prayer
2. With food
3. With weapons
Ahimilech was lied to by David so he has no idea what’s coming. He might even think he is being thanks/rewarded by Saul.
