The Death of Sarah
This is the ONLY place in Scripture that gives info on the death of a woman
Abraham did not yet OWN any land in which to bury his wife
This chapter documents a LEGAL transaction
This chapter shows the FIRST fulfillment of the promise of land
Isaac was almost 40 when his mother passed away

Characteristics of a Good Match
Finding a wife for Isaac was a KEY priority for Abraham in his last days
She could not be FROM Canaan
She should be from Abraham’s FAMILY
--Inter-racial marriage is NOT wrong
--Inter-religious marriage IS wrong
Remaining in Canaan was a KEY priority for Isaac

Characteristics of a Good Servant
He had already proven himself trustworthy (24:2)
He asked good questions (24:5)
He made a serious commitment to his master (24:9)
He was well prepared for his mission (24:10)
He utilized wise strategy (24:11)
He bathed his task in prayer (24:12)
He asked God for a clear sign (24:14)
He took action (24:17 + 23)
He was cautious (24:21)
He gave the glory to God (24:26, 52)
He shared the testimony with all involved (24:34-49)
He completed his task without extra delay (24:56)

Characteristics of a Good Woman
She was a hard worker (24:15, 19)
She was from a good family (24:15)
She was very beautiful (24:16)
She was a virgin (24:16)
She had a servant’s heart (24:20)
She recognize the will of God (24:58)
She was very respectful (24:65)

The Death of Abraham
Abraham’s 1st priority was honoring the promise God had made him
Abraham was just in his actions toward all his children
Abraham died at a good old age, as was predicted
Abraham died in faith that God would fulfill His promises
Abraham was buried on his own land, the first-fruits of the promise
