Luke 8:22-39
Luke 8:22-25
Jesus Calms the Storm
This voyage was like a microcosm
of Israel’s 1st century existence
1. The Lord had given them a task
2. They were lost in the sea
3. They were caught in a storm
4. It seemed God was absent (Mark 4:38)
Jesus wanted to teach them about faith
1. It is trusting God, not trusting God will do blank
2. It is trusting God is with you even when He seems absent
3. It is something that should increase with time
This account shows that Jesus was master of nature
This account shows that Jesus was the Messiah
Luke 8:26-33
Jesus casts out demons
Being demonized doesn’t eliminate self-will
The way of the devil drives us closer to death
Mankind cannot triumph over demons
Demons cannot triumph over Jesus
The way of the devil drives us away from relationships
Luke 8:34-39
The People Respond
Fear is only valuable when directed toward the right place
Jesus won’t work where Jesus isn’t wanted
We remain here for the purpose of evangelism
This account shows that Jesus was the master of spirits
