Luke 9:27-36
Luke 9:27-36
The Transfiguration
1. At the Transfiguration
+ The transfiguration follows the statement (2 Peter 1:16-19)
-- None of them died between sentences
2. At the Cross/Resurrection
+ These were the focal point of history
-- Only Judas died during this time
3. At the Coming of the Holy Spirit
+ The Spirit came in power
-- Can the Spirit be equated with the Son? (John 14:16-18, Romans 8:9-10, 2 Cor. 3:17)
4. At the Destruction of Jerusalem
+ This fits best with the ‘some’ statement
-- How can it be said that Jesus came in AD70? (Matthew 24, 26:63, Isaiah 19:1-2)
5. At the Future Second Coming
+ This is most easily viewed as His Coming
-- It doesn’t seem to fit with the ‘some’ statement at all
In my opinion, AD70 is the event which best fits with the phrase
'some who are standing here will not taste death before'
And thus, I consider AD70 to be the best interpretation
It can be argued that Jesus 'came' in judge/vindicator in AD70
I consider Pentecost & the Transfiguration to be good interpretations
Except for in fitting with the phrase 'some who are standing here'
I dont' consider the Resurrection or the future 2nd Coming solid views
As for the tribulation itself, the event was held as very important
Seeing as how each of the synoptic gospels records it
And even Peter records it in his letter
In fact, perhaps the lesson to be learned is from Peter's part in the story
Peter's Errors
1. He didn't know what to say, but simply felt the need to speak
2. He was putting Jesus on their level, instead of exalting Christ above all
3. He didn't want to let Moses/Elijah (old covenant) pass away
The Transfiguration
Matthew 16:28Some people say this was (or will be) fulfilled…
I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste
death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom
Mark 9:1
I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste
death before they see the kingdom of God come with power
Luke 9:27
I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste
death before they see the kingdom of God
