Luke 13:18-35
Luke 13:18-35
Entering the Kingdom
The Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed
Positive Interpretation
Many of Jesus’ followers were expecting a powerful/strong beginning for the ‘kingdom.’ But Jesus was letting them know that the kingdom of heaven would actually start very small and grow with time before it became visibly impressive.
Negative Interpretation
Jesus was saying that his kingdom was meant to be small and pungent, but it would un-naturally become something large and worldly
The Kingdom of God is like yeast
Positive Interpretation
Just like the positive interpretation above, the Kingdom of God would start out small, but would eventually come to affect the entire world
Negative Interpretation
The Kingdom of God would be corrupted by sin that would spread all throughout the church
* I take the postive interpretation of both parables
Are only a few people going to be saved?
1. Jesus does not answer the question directly
2. Some people try to be saved on their own terms (24)
3. Some people try to be saved at their own time (25)
4. Some people try to be saved by their own connections (26)
5. Some people try to be saved via their birthright (29)
Why do you think the Pharisees told Jesus to leave? (31)
What was Jesus’ goal? (9:51, 13:22, 32-33)
Why wasn’t Jerusalem, as a whole, going to be saved? (34)
When did/will Jerusalem fulfill Jesus’ prediction? (35)
