Who were the 1st Christians?
1. The 11 Remaining disciples:
Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas,
Bartholomew, Matthew, James, Simon, Judas
2. The women (Luke 8:2-3):
Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Susanna, many others
3. Jesus’ family:
Mother (Mary), 4 Brothers (James, Joseph, Simon, Judas), likely his sisters (at least 2), an Aunt (Mary, John 19:25) & perhaps other relatives
4. The 70 (Luke 10)
5. Miscellaneous Others:
Cleopas (Luke 24:18), Mary (wife of Cleopas, John 19:25), Bethany Contingent (Martha, Mary, Lazarus), John Mark & his Mother, Family & Friends of Disciples, non-Jerusalem based believers, etc
Why did they feel they needed to replace Judas?
1. Scripture called for someone to take his place
2. Since there was plenty of work to do
3. So as to avoid continued questions about Judas
How did they arrive at a solution to the problem?
1. Peter POINTED out the problem in detail
2. Peter PRESENTED guidelines toward a solution
3. They PROPOSED two potential candidates
4. They PRAYED for God’s guidance
5. They PUT the plan into action
