A Tale of Two Cities (17:1-15)
Thessalonica (17:1-9)
1. Paul went to where people valued Scripture (O.T.)
In such a context, the Gospel is ‘reasonable’
In such a context, the Gospel can be ‘proven’
In such a context, the Gospel is very persuasive
2. Jews (unbelieving) were jealous
They made of mob of bad characters who started a riot
They captured Jason & others who had hosted Paul & Silas
They let them go after they posted bond
Questions to Consider
1. Do many non-Christians value the Scriptures in today’s culture?
2. Should we expect such people to view Christianity as reasonable?
3. How can we witness to people who don’t think highly of Scripture?
4. Why do you think the Gospel made some Jews so jealous?
Berea (17:10-15)
1. The character of the Bereans:
They were eager to receive truth
They were cautious to accept truth claims
2. The character of the Thessalonians
They agitated the crowds
They stirred people up to create a riot
Questions to Consider
1. What mindsets can prevent us from being like the Bereans today?
2. Do we make a habit of comparing teachings with the Scriptures?
3. Which group of people, in this account, was reasonable? Emotional?
