Numbers 10:11-19:22
This section begins with the cloud being lifted above the Tabernacle. This meant it was time to move. The Israelites were about to begin making progress toward the Promised Land. God's presence was seen as pivotal for the whole journey. External enemies would be rendered powerless. What could possibly stop them now? Unfortunately, there is an answer to that question: Internal Complaints.
Complaint #1 It's too hard! (11:1)
Complaint #2 We want more! (11:4)
Complaint #3 Not me! (11:11-15)
Complaint #4 Not us! (11:21-22)
Complaint #5 Not them! (11:28)
Complaint #6 Not him! (12:1-2)
Complaint #7 We can't! (13:31-33)
Complaint #8 We shouldn't have (14:1-4)
Complaint #9 You've gone too far! (16:1-3)
Complaint #10 You shouldn't have! (16:41)
Complaint #11 We're hopeless (20:2-5)
Complaint #12 Now! (21:1-5)
The overall result of this onslaught of complaints is that the generation in question (even including Moses) was not allowed to enter the Promised Land. Instead, they would wander the desert for 40 years.
