35% of non-born-again Americans have been divorced
35% of born-again Americans have been divorced
Yet we're more concerned with union of state-endorsed homosexual marriages than with the dis-union of God-endorsed marriages between Christian men and women. We should check out Matthew 7:4-5 & 1 Corinthians 5:12-13.
3 Principles Regarding Marriage
1. Marriage is defined by God (Genesis 2:18-24, Matthew 19:3-9)
2. Marriage is not for everyone (Matthew 19:10-12, 1 Corinthians 7:7-8)
3. God hates divorce (Malachi 2:13-16, Matthew 19:8-9)
Consider, therefore, the kindness and sternness of God (Romans 11:22)
3 Valid Endings to a Christian's Marriage
1. Death of Spouse (Romans 7:1-3)
2. Departure of the unbeliever (1 Corinthians 7:12-16 via Matthew 18:15-17)
3. Divorce due to unfaithfulness (Matthew 19:9)
But the intention should be to preserve, not end
The church needs to minister to those broken by divorce
But we have no strong right to speak till we set a better example
