Jesus for President (Part 33: A Eulogy for John)
In Part 6 of our study of Matthew, we looked at the life of John the Baptist. We examined his:
Mission Prepared hearts for Christ
Manner Provocative living
Message Preached bold truths
Ministry Placed the focus on Christ
John was put in prison because of these commitments and would soon be killed (see Matthew 14:1-12). In today’s text, Jesus both alleviates John’s doubts and gives an early eulogy for him.
How would Jesus perform a funeral service?
1. He got to the heart of who John was and who John wasn’t (11:7-11, 14-15).
2. He turned His attention to the listeners and how they should respond to John’s life (11:12-13, 16-19).
3. He reminded everyone that Judgment Day is on the way for each of us (11:20-24).
4. He invited everyone to come to Him, the Christ, in order to find true rest and leadership (11:25-30).
