Why Did Jesus Come (16:21-26)
The Gospel According to Matthew
Jesus for President (Part 47: Why Did Jesus Come?)
From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed
*Jesus came to die
What did He not cling to? (omnipotence, omniscience, omnipresence?) Phil 2:5-8
How far are we willing to follow Jesus? (16:21-28)
Many will only follow Him to His Birth
Some will only follow Him to His Ministry
Few will also follow Him to His Cross
How can we survive suffering? (2 Corinthians 4-5)
B/C inwardly we are being renewed (4:16)
B/C we realize that suffering is short-term (4:17a)
B/C we know the reward is worth it (4:17b-18)
B/C we have certainty of resurrection (5:1-4)
B/C we have the Spirit as a guarantee (5:5)
