Ready for Return? (24:35-25:30
Last week I argued that Matthew 24:1-34 wasn’t about the end of the world, but about the destruction of the Temple in AD70 (when Jesus came in judgment of Jerusalem). In Matthew 24:35-25:46, though, we are given the warning to be ready for the yet future Second Coming of Christ.
7 Facts You Need to Know
To Be Ready for the Return
1. The Day of Judgment looms on the horizon (35)
2. No one on earth knows when that day will be (36)
- So we should stop crying wolf
3. Life will be going on as usual when He comes (37-41)
- In this context, you WANT to be 'left behind'
4. It is, therefore, appropriate to be ready now (42-44)
~ Parable of the 10 Bridesmaids (25:1-13)
5. The way to get ready is to be good stewards (45-46)
~ Parable of the loaned money (25:14-30)
6. Rewards await the servants of God(47)
~ 25:21, 23, 28b-29a
7. Punishments await the rebels against God (48-51)
~ 25:26-28a, 29b-30
