The Denial (26:31-35, 69-75)
The Emphatic Promise (Matthew 26:31-35)
"Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will."
"Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you."
~Becoming a Christian is making a covenant promise
~But Jesus knows we all stumble
~Peter's problem was over-confidence (Despite Jesus statement!)
The Emphatic Denial (Matthew 26:56b, 69-75)
"I don't know what you're talking about,"
"I don't know the man!"
"I don't know the man!"
The Emphatic Restoration (John 21:15-19)
"Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that I love you."
"Yes, Lord, you know that I love you."
"Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you."
~Peter's denial was like 'the elephant in the room'
~Parallelism b/w promise/denial & promise/restoration
~Agape/Phileo wording may be very significant
